Wool Lifestyle

Our New Zealand wool has impeccable attributes. The integrity of the fibre is outstanding with a lot of effort being poured into its credentials as a truly sustainable material.

None of this matters if we forget to mention how wonderful it is to experience life with wool in your habitat.

Our wool is life enhancing. Wool is a fibre evolved by nature over centuries to provide warmth and safety. It does not melt. Wool won’t attract oily stains like some synthetic fibre.  Wool can breathe and moderate humidity making it great for asthma sufferers. Wool absorbs noise unlike hard floors. Manufactured right 100% wool products will outlast other materials and keep looking good for a very long time.

But what really matters is that wool feels lovely.

People aspire to luxury, and people like to feel good about their investments.  We have the fibre that delivers a luxurious and responsible lifestyle.

Wool is brilliant stuff.  The smart people got together and agreed that wool is the future of everything that’s cool sophisticated and trendy.

Unfortunately lots of people missed this get together and are still not buying wool carpets for their homes.

I don’t think they purposely intend to neglect the health of their loved ones by making them walk on slippery dangerous wood floors or by letting them inhale dust that is floating about.  Possibly the static shocks from synthetic fibres are just considered a fact of life, part of the price you pay to live on a plastic sheet of fake.

If you have a friend or family member that you care for please be kind and tell them they need to install a warm, soft and life enriching wool carpet.

If they purchase a Wools of New Zealand brand carpet they will get..

Cleaner air in their home

A warmer home

Lower heating bills

Fewer accidents and slips

A much quieter home

A cleaner planet, with more trees, more dolphins and happier people (click here)

the knowledge that they did their bit to buy an ethical and environmentally friendly product.

Show some carpet love and buy a New Zealand wool carpet.  Please. 🙂

Itchy and Scratchy – NOT

Itchy and Scratchy – Yeah right!

This week I was asked if the wool from “carpet sheep” is Itchy and Scratchy!

I replied with “No no no no no no no no and finally no!”

There is a hierarchy of wool from very fine wool used in men’s suits to coarse wools or “strong wool” used in carpets.
New Zealand wool is known in the textiles trade to be softer, brighter and whiter when compared to wools from other regions.
There are multiple reasons for this ranging from selective breeding to the climate and in particular excellence in farming practice. Some of the sheep like Merinos grow very fine wool and other sheep like the Romney or Perendale are great for carpet wool.

If the fine wool is used in interior textiles it is too soft and won’t perform, If the coarse wool is put into clothing then yes it might be a bit scratchy, that’s not because wool itself is scratchy, it is that the wrong wool was used.
It is like making a cake if you use the wrong ingredients you get a rubbish cake.

The trick is to use a master chef to bake your cake.  The craftsmen who make great textiles know how to select the very best wools which are fit for purpose for making the most sumptuous carpets and fabrics that also perform.

Wool carpets are wonderful to walk on, they are soft to touch and soft on the ears also.  Let’s not pick on wool with terms like Itchy and scratchy, lets pick on synthetics that melt into your skin or on hard floors which break the hips of your grandmother when the poor old dear slips over..

Wool carpets are excellent. See..

Lovely soft wool carpet.
